Job summary

Lawsons (Whetstone) Ltd. is hiring a Yard Operative for our AVS Peterborough branch. This hands-on role supports receipt, storage and preparation of timber, building and landscaping products for customer collection and delivery, while helping keep the yard safe and well organised.

You will join a busy branch team, working outdoors in a physically demanding environment, using forklift equipment where required, and delivering friendly, reliable service to customers.

Qualifications

• Experience in a yard, warehouse or builders' merchant environment.
• Forklift license is required.
• Practical, dependable and customer-focused.
• Ability to work outdoors in a physically demanding role.

Responsibilities

• Loading and unloading deliveries safely and efficiently.
• Picking and preparing customer orders accurately.
• Organising and maintaining stock within the yard.
• Supporting customers with their collections and loading purchases where appropriate.

Yard Operative – AVS Peterborough

Join the AVS Peterborough Team

Lawsons is looking for a reliable and hardworking Yard Operative to join the team at our AVS Peterborough branch. This is a hands-on role where you’ll help keep the yard safe, organised and running efficiently while providing excellent service to our customers.

As a Yard Operative, you’ll work as part of a busy branch team, supporting the receipt, storage and preparation of timber, building, fencing and landscaping products for customer collection and delivery.

The Role

Your responsibilities will include:

• Loading and unloading deliveries safely and efficiently

• Picking and preparing customer orders accurately

• Organising and maintaining stock within the yard

• Supporting customers with their collections and loading purchases where appropriate

• Checking goods for quality and reporting any shortages or damage

• Working closely with branch colleagues, drivers and the sales team

• Keeping the yard, warehouse and surrounding areas clean, tidy and well organised

• Following all company health and safety procedures

• Experience in a yard, warehouse, builders’ merchant, distribution or similar environment is essential.

• A valid Forklift License.

• Good communication and customer service skills

• The ability to work outdoors in a physically demanding role

Working Hours, Salary and Benefits

• Working hours are Monday - Friday 07.30 -17.00, plus 1 in 2 Saturdays 08.00 - 17.00
