Job summary

The Best Connection is recruiting a reliable Yard Operative for our busy Nottingham operation. You will safely operate a Counterbalance forklift, move and store stock, and support the wider team with general yard duties, including goods-in and goods-out activities.

Candidates must hold a valid Counterbalance forklift licence and a full UK driving licence, with prior yard/warehouse experience and a strong commitment to health and safety.

Qualifications

• Experience in a yard, warehouse, manufacturing or logistics environment.
• Valid Counterbalance forklift licence and full UK driving licence required.
• Strong health and safety awareness and good communication skills.

Responsibilities

• Operate a Counterbalance forklift safely and efficiently.
• Load and unload vehicles; move and store stock within the yard.
• Carry out goods-in and goods-out activities and stock checks.
• Perform daily equipment checks and report defects.
• Keep the yard clean, safe and well organised.
• Support other departments as required.

Job description

We are currently recruiting for a reliable and hardworking Yard Operative to join a busy and fast-paced operation in the Nottingham area. This role involves the safe handling, movement, and storage of materials within the yard using a counterbalance forklift, as well as supporting the wider team with general yard duties. The successful candidate must hold a valid, in-date, and accredited Counterbalance Forklift Truck licence and possess a full UK driving licence.

Key Responsibilities

• Operating a Counterbalance Forklift Truck safely and efficiently.
• Loading and unloading vehicles.
• Moving, storing, and organising stock within the yard.
• Carrying out goods-in and goods-out activities.
• Conducting daily equipment checks and reporting any defects.
• Maintaining a clean, tidy, and safe working environment.
• Assisting with stock control and inventory checks.
• Following all health and safety procedures and company policies.
• Supporting other departments as required.

Requirements

Essential

• Valid, in-date, and accredited Counterbalance Forklift Truck licence (RTITB, ITSSAR, NPORS, or equivalent).
• Full UK driving licence.
• Previous experience working within a yard, warehouse, manufacturing, or logistics environment.
• Strong awareness of health and safety practices.
• Good communication skills and a positive attitude.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
• Reliable, punctual, and hard-working.
• Experience loading and unloading a variety of materials.
• Additional forklift licences or machinery experience.
• Basic computer skills for stock management systems.
