Job summary

FM Conway is recruiting a Yard Operative for our Dartford depot in Kent. You will keep the yard clean, help load and unload plant, and ensure equipment is stored securely while maintaining a safe working environment.

Experience in highways or construction is preferred. A full UK driving licence is required; forklift ticket is desirable but not essential. We offer 23 days’ holiday plus bank holidays, a company pension and access to training and employee discounts.

Responsibilities

• Check stock and allocate plant numbers for hires.
• Assist drivers and customers with loading/unloading plant.
• Secure plant, equipment and assets within the yard.
• Move plant and equipment to correct storage areas.
• Liaise with foreman and plant hire coordinator on run sheets.
• Assist with wash bay cover and weekly asset stock audits.
• Drive and operate a forklift.
• Run machines weekly to prevent battery discharge.

Job description

FM Conway is currently recruiting for a Yard Operative to work within our Plant and Workshop Division our Yard Operative you will ensure that the depot is kept clean and tidy, and all equipment is stored securely. This is a full-time permanent role based from our Dartford depot in Kent.

The duties of the Yard Operative role will include:

• Checking stock and allocating plant numbers for hires
• Assisting drivers and customers with loading and unloading plant
• Securing plant, equipment and assets within the yard and depot areas
• Moving plant and equipment around the yard into correct storage areas
• Liaising with the plant workshop foreman & plant hire co-ordinator regarding daily run sheets, required plant for delivery and plant being returned to the yard
• Assisting with holiday and sickness cover on the wash bay as required
• Undertaking weekly asset stock audits around yard and depot
• Driving and operating a forklift
• Running machines weekly to avoid the batteries going flat

We are looking for candidates who have experience working within the highways or construction industry. You will be a strong team player, with good communication skills and the ability to recognise hazards within a busy yard. A forklift ticket will be desirable however, this is not essential. A full UK driving licence is required.
