Job summary

Lawsons is recruiting an Assistant Yard Manager for our Wandsworth branch to support day-to-day yard operations and lead by example in handling timber, fencing and building materials. You will oversee safe storage, assist with customer collections, and help maintain stock accuracy while upholding high health and safety standards.

The role is full-time, with early start hours and Saturday rotation, offering a competitive salary and benefits.

Qualifications

• Previous yard/warehouse experience essential.
• Experience supervising or coordinating colleagues desirable.
• Full UK driving licence essential (Forklifts on public roads).
• Good knowledge of safe material handling and stock control.
• Physically fit to lift and move materials safely.
• Experience operating forklift/telehandler desirable with qualifications preferred.
• Strong organisation and ability to prioritise in a busy environment.
• Good communication and customer-focused approach.

Responsibilities

• Support the Yard Manager with daily yard operation and organisation.
• Coordinate receipt, unloading, storage and presentation of materials.
• Plan and prioritise customer orders for collection/delivery; ensure accuracy and timeliness.
• Supervise yard colleagues and allocate tasks during busy periods.
• Ensure stock is safely stored and accessible; assist with stock checks and discrepancies.
• Assist with vehicle loading and safe handling of goods; operate plant only if trained.
• Provide friendly service to customers visiting the yard and handle queries.
• Maintain high housekeeping standards and report hazards for routine checks.
• Assist with induction and training of new yard colleagues as required.
• Collaborate with branch, transport and sales teams to support service and delivery.
