Job summary

Allstaff is seeking a Yard Manager based in Bedfordshire for a full-time permanent role. The position offers a salary between £50,000 and £55,000, with Monday to Friday hours from 7am to 5pm and occasional Saturday work (up to 2 Saturdays per month, 7am-12pm).

You will lead a team of 25 yard operatives, manage performance, health and safety compliance, and oversee stock and deliveries. Key duties include coordinating loading/unloading, stock control, and reporting.

Qualifications

• Must have previous management experience.
• SMSTS or SSSTS certification.
• First aid trained.
• Counterbalance or telehandler license.

Responsibilities

• Lead, motivate and manage all yard operatives (25 people).
• Conduct regular performance reviews and manage attendance, punctuality and holidays.
• Identify training requirements and support employee development.
• Lead weekly team briefings.
• Ensure compliance with health and safety policies and statutory requirements.
• Monitor forklift, plant and equipment inspections.
• Keep yard clean, organised and hazard-free.
• Oversee loading and unloading activities.
• Manage daily workload allocation and stock records.
• Investigate stock discrepancies and implement preventative measures.
• Oversee delivery scheduling and vehicle utilisation.
• Coordinate with administration and transport teams.
• Investigate customer queries related to deliveries, returns and stock discrepancies.
• Produce management reports.

Summary of the Yard Manager role

• Salary: £50,000 - £55,000
• Location: Bedfordshire
• Type of Contract: Permanent
• Hours: Monday - Friday 7am - 5pm. (2 Saturdays a month maximum when required 7am-12pm)

Responsibilities of the Yard Manager

• Lead, motivate and manage all yard operatives – currently 25 people
• Conduct regular performance reviews and manage attendance, punctuality and holiday requests

• Weekly team briefings
• Ensure full compliance with all company health and safety policies, procedures and statutory requirements
• Monitor and audit daily and weekly forklift, plant and equipment inspections
• Ensure the yard remains clean and organised and free from hazards
• Oversee all loading and unloading activities
• Manage daily workload allocation
• Maintain accurate stock records
• Investigate and resolve stock discrepancies and implement preventative measures
• Oversee delivery scheduling and vehicle utilisation
• Coordinate with the administration and transport teams
• Investigate customer queries relating to deliveries, returns and stock discrepancies
• Produce management reports
