Job summary

Allstaff Recruitment Ltd seeks a Yard Manager based in Bedfordshire for a permanent, full-time role. Salary £50,000–£55,000. Hours are 7am–5pm, Monday–Friday, with up to two Saturdays per month 7am–12pm.

Lead ~25 yard operatives, ensure safety compliance, manage stock and loading/unloading, and coordinate with admin/transport teams. Requires previous management, SMSTS/SSSTS, First aid, and counterbalance or telehandler licenses.

Qualifications

• Must have prior management experience leading yard teams.
• SMSTS or SSSTS certification is required.
• First aid qualification is required.
• Counterbalance or telehandler license is required.

Responsibilities

• Lead, motivate and manage all yard operatives – approx. 25 staff.
• Conduct regular performance reviews and manage attendance and holidays.
• Identify training needs and support staff development.
• Run weekly team briefings and ensure health and safety compliance.
• Audit forklift, plant and equipment inspections daily/weekly.
• Oversee loading/unloading, stock records and delivery scheduling.
• Coordinate with admin and transport teams and resolve delivery issues.

We have an exciting opportunity for a Yard Manager based in Bedfordshire for one of our clients on a Full time permanent basis.

Summary of the Yard Manager role

Salary: £50,000 - £55,000
Location: Bedfordshire
Type of Contract: Permanent
Hours: Monday – Friday 7am – 5pm. (2 Saturdays a month maximum when required 7am-12pm)

Responsibilities of the Yard Manager

• Lead, motivate and manage all yard operatives – currently 25 people
• Conduct regular performance reviews and manage attendance, punctuality and holiday requests
• Identify training requirements and support employee development
• Weekly team briefings
• Ensure full compliance with all company health and safety policies, procedures and statutory requirements
• Monitor and audit daily and weekly forklift, plant and equipment inspections
• Ensure the yard remains clean and organised and free from hazards
• Oversee all loading and unloading activities
• Manage daily workload allocation
• Maintain accurate stock records
• Investigate and resolve stock discrepancies and implement preventative measures
• Oversee delivery scheduling and vehicle utilisation
• Coordinate with the administration and transport teams
• Investigate customer queries relating to deliveries, returns and stock discrepancies
• Produce management reports

Requirements for a successful Yard Manager

• Previous management experience
• SMSTS or SSSTS
• First aid trained
• Counterbalance or telehandler license
