Job summary

LBS Builders Merchants Swansea is seeking a proactive Yard Foreperson to oversee the yard, warehouse and transport operations. Reporting to the Branch Manager, you will lead yard staff, manage deliveries and stock, and maintain high safety standards.

We value a hands-on leader with experience in logistics or builders’ merchants, strong communication, and the ability to coach and develop team members. A forklift licence is advantageous, with training available if needed.

Qualifications

• Supervisory or team-leading experience in builders’ merchant, warehouse or logistics.
• Strong leadership and organisational skills.
• Customer-first approach with excellent communication skills.
• Good knowledge of health & safety practices.
• Forklift licence or willingness to train.
• Basic IT skills for stock and system checks.

Responsibilities

• Supervise and coordinate yard staff and drivers to maximise productivity.
• Maintain safe, organised storage and stock presentation across the yard and warehouse.
• Schedule and oversee customer deliveries, ensuring vehicles are used effectively.
• Ensure all vehicles and forklifts are checked daily, maintained, and kept safe and presentable.
• Provide excellent customer service to both trade and retail customers.
• Oversee picking, loading, and unloading of stock for deliveries, collections and transfers.
• Contribute to stock management, accuracy and rotation, including stock takes.
• Ensure compliance with Health & Safety, company procedures, and security requirements.
• Support and develop staff through training, appraisals and day‑to‑day coaching.
