The Opportunity
We are seeking a highly skilled and motivated Yard and Logistics Manager to join our dynamic team. You will play a pivotal role in overseeing the efficient operations of the yard, including material handling, inventory flow, and timely delivery of goods. You will manage and lead the yard team, ensuring productivity, safety, and adherence to processes. You will work closely with the Manufacturing Manager to ensure alignment on operational priorities and yard requirements.

Key Responsibilities
Team Leadership :
- Supervise, manage, and motivate the yard team to meet production and safety targets.
- Develop and implement training and development plans for the team, ensuring they are equipped with the skills necessary to perform their roles efficiently and safely.
- Ensure resource is planned to meet current and future demand, including recruitment when required
- Foster a culture of continuous improvement by developing team competencies and ensuring all team member are fully trained
Planning & Scheduling:
- Ensure yard activities are efficiently planned and executed, in line with the Production Priority Sheet
- Create longer term plans for optimised use of storage capacity ensuring any constraints are identified and mitigated
- Oversee material handling, galvanising controls, dispatch, and storage to ensure on time, in full deliveries
Process Improvement:
- Identify and implement lean methods and innovations to continuously improve yard operations and delivery performance
- Support MRP/ERP implementation and contribute to the integration of the Yard Operations into StruMIS
- Manage yard expansion efforts, ensuring efficient storage and movement of stock to accommodate site growth while proactively identifying and mitigating potential risks
Quality & Safety Management:
- Ensure all yard operations comply with health and safety standards, maintaining a safe working environment
- Lead by example and take a proactive approach to continually improving health and safety performance
- Collaborate with the HSE lead on risk assessments and ensure yard-specific safety protocols are followed
- Lead quality improvements and yard NCR process and communicate lessons learned
- Ensuring all required quality checks have been carried out prior to material dispatch
Collaboration and Reporting:
- Provide regular reports on departmental metrics, including Theory of Constraints, to drive performance and improvement
- Ensure delivery in full (OTD) and report departmental metrics to drive team efficiency
- Attend production meetings to align with production priorities
What We're Looking For
Skills & Experience:
- Proven experience in a yard management or logistics role, ideally within a manufacturing or engineering environment.
- Strong knowledge of material handling, kitting, bundling, and inventory management.
- Familiarity with quality control processes and adherence to safety standards in a busy yard environment.
- Experience with MRP/ERP systems and an understanding of lean manufacturing principles.
- Strong leadership and team management skills, with the ability to motivate and inspire others.
