Job Summary:

This position is accountable for preparing patients and performing routine radiographic procedures in accordance with physicians’ orders and the procedure manual. The Diagnostic Technologist produces high-quality images and presents them with appropriate comparison studies and other exam results or pertinent patient information to the Radiologist for timely interpretation. Additionally, the Diagnostic Technologist supports the mission, vision, values, and strategic initiatives of Mary Washington Healthcare and demonstrates a commitment to quality service for patients, families, the community, physicians, and staff.

Essential Functions & Responsibilities:
  • Prepares patients for radiology examinations by confirming physicians’ orders, verifying patient identities, and obtaining adequate medical histories to ensure appropriate examinations and facilitate accurate diagnosis.
  • Performs radiology examinations on all patient age groups and maintains clinical competency, evidenced by completion of an annual Competency Based Orientation for Radiologic Technology Clinical Associates Level I.
  • Adheres to departmental policies, procedures, standards, and protocols to ensure effective operations and quality patient care.
  • Demonstrates a high level of knowledge and understanding of diagnostic imaging services and activities.
  • Maintains a safe environment for patients, personnel, and visitors by supporting safety management programs.
  • Follows radiation safety practices for patients, staff, and self, including principles of time, distance, and shielding.
  • Provides supervision and instruction to students, supporting the MWH School of Radiologic Technology and cross-training programs.
  • Monitors and maintains inventory of supplies to ensure availability and uninterrupted services.
  • Records and files patient and procedural data accurately for department operations and billing.
  • Maintains competency in using iSite PACs, syngo, Soarian, and other systems.
  • Participates in Performance Improvement activities using PDCA and LEAN methodology.
  • Has authority to administer contrast agents following established guidelines.
  • Possesses the knowledge to meet age-specific needs of patient groups.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
  • ARRT registered or registry-eligible in Radiologic Technology (must pass exam within one year if eligible).
  • Completion of an accredited two-year Radiologic Technology program or equivalent.
  • VA State Radiologic Technologist License required for outpatient facilities.
  • AHA BLS Provider CPR required at hire.
  • Three years relevant experience preferred.
