About The Role

Purpose of the role: The technician is responsible for carrying out all work to a high standard within this busy municipal workshop facility, ensuring adherence to vehicle maintenance and compliance regulations. The role involves completing paperwork and the Fleet management system accurately and timely, as well as carrying out repairs, maintenance, and servicing on vehicles as required.

Duties and responsibilities:

  1. Ensure all vehicles booked into the workshop have completed work or have been re-booked for re-visit repairs, and are safe before returning to the customer.
  2. Complete all required paperwork for each task and submit it immediately after inspection/work.
  3. Verify that all ordered parts match the work required.
  4. Assist other technicians with repairs when needed and perform workshop controller duties when required.
  5. Fully utilize the fleet management system (Fleetwave).
  6. Adhere to SFS Health and Safety policies at all times.
  7. Maintain a clean and tidy workshop and parking area, ensuring all vehicles are parked efficiently, keys are secured, and walkways are clear.
  8. Ensure all equipment used is in safe condition, used appropriately, and returned after use. Report any equipment failures.
  9. Attend vehicle breakdowns on-site as required, using provided workshop vehicle/van.
  10. Only return vehicles to customers if they are safe for use.
  11. Build and maintain professional relationships with staff, customers, and suppliers.
  12. Be on standby 24/7 on a weekly basis as required.
  13. Maintain flexibility in duties to support workshop and customer needs.

About You

Skills:

  • Full clean HGV driving license (category C) required.
  • Minimum 5 years’ experience working on municipal vehicles (e.g., refuse, sweepers).
  • Technical experience with vehicle electrical systems (12/24 volts), hydraulic, and pneumatic systems.
  • Qualifications in recognized training schemes, VOSA vehicle inspection, municipal vehicle manufacturing training.
  • Understanding of Health & Safety regulations.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.

Desirable Skills:

  • Attention to detail.
  • IT skills, including MS Office.
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to multitask and prioritize deadlines.

Working hours: 40 hours per week, Monday to Friday, with flexible hours based on business needs.
