Workshop Technician - Ref: EE13824

Salary: G8 - £36,124 to £40,476
Hours: 37 hours per week (Monday to Sunday, annualized contract)

Are you a skilled vehicle mechanic with experience working with larger vehicles, and looking for an exciting opportunity in a fast-paced, essential public service? Walsall Council’s Fleet Services is seeking a dedicated and enthusiastic Workshop Technician to join our highly motivated team.

About the Role

As a Workshop Technician, you will:

  • Inspect, service, and repair a variety of vehicles, including HGVs, LGVs, and agricultural machinery.
  • Conduct fault diagnostics and prepare vehicles for MOT tests.
  • Assist in on-the-job training for apprentices and staff.
  • Ensure compliance with health and safety regulations and industry standards.
  • Be part of the standby/call-out rota, supporting out-of-hours operations.
What We’re Looking For
  • Qualified HGV mechanic (or time-served with extensive experience).
  • Strong knowledge of engines, transmissions, braking systems, suspension, and vehicle electrics.
  • MOT preparation experience is desirable.
  • Ability to work under pressure, meeting tight deadlines.
  • A team player with a commitment to high standards and efficiency.

Minimum Qualifications

Applications must be able to demonstrate the following qualifications at application:

  • Hold an appropriate Health and Safety Qualification
  • Industry qualification - Motor trade industry
  • Driving License - including minimum Cat C
  • National Craftsman Certificate / Technician Certificate in the motor vehicle trade or equivalent.
  • MOT testers course (minimum 5 years experience in the motor trade to undertake MOT tests)
