Job description

The technician is responsible for carrying out all work to a high standard within this busy municipal workshop facility, ensuring adherence to vehicle maintenance and compliance regulations. The role involves ensuring that all paperwork and Fleet management system entries are completed accurately and timely, and carrying out repairs, maintenance, and servicing to vehicles as required.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES / ACCOUNTABILITIES:

  • Ensure all vehicles booked into the workshop have completed all work or have been re-booked for re-visit repairs, with items considered safe to be used, before returning to the customer.
  • Complete all required paperwork for each task or job and submit it immediately to the workshop controller upon completion.
  • Verify that all ordered parts are correct for the work required.
  • Assist other technicians with repairs and support the workshop controller’s duties when needed.
  • Utilize the fleet management system (Fleetwave) fully as required.
  • Adhere strictly to SFS Health and Safety policies at all times.
  • Maintain cleanliness and organization of the workshop and parking area, ensure vehicles are parked efficiently, walkways are clear, and keys are kept secure.
  • Ensure all equipment used is in safe condition, used appropriately, and returned to storage after use. Report any equipment failures to the workshop controller.
  • Attend vehicle breakdowns on-site as required, using a provided workshop vehicle/van.
  • Only return vehicles to customers when deemed safe to do so.
  • Build and maintain professional relationships with staff, customers, and suppliers.
  • Be on standby 24/7 on a weekly basis as required.
  • Maintain a flexible approach to work duties to provide adequate coverage for workshop and customer needs.
About You
  • Hold a full, clean HGV driving license (Category C) at minimum.
  • Have at least 5 years’ technical experience with municipal vehicles (e.g., refuse, sweepers).
  • Possess technical expertise in vehicle electrical systems (12V & 24V), hydraulic, and pneumatic systems.
  • Provide evidence of qualifications such as an apprenticeship, VOSA vehicle inspection course, or municipal vehicle manufacturing training.
  • Understand Health & Safety rules and regulations.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Proficient in IT, with knowledge of MS Office systems.
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to multitask and meet deadlines.

Working Hours

40 hours per week, Monday to Friday, with flexible hours based on business needs.
