Job summary

NMS Recruit Ltd is helping a leading engineering business recruit a Mechanical Workshop Engineer with turbomachinery expertise. This hands-on role focuses on the inspection, machining, refurbishment, and assembly of turbine rotors and rotating equipment to OEM standards.

You will handle heavy components up to 10 tons, read engineering drawings, and work with lathes, milling and CNC machines, while complying with QHSE standards and contributing to outages and field service as required.

Qualifications

  • 5–10 years experience in rotating equipment.
  • Familiar with inspection techniques and OEM QHSE standards.
  • Read manufacturing drawings and work to tight tolerances.
  • Experience with lathes, milling machines and CNC equipment.

Responsibilities

  • Experience handling rotors up to 10 tons, lifting, inspecting and fine machining.
  • Familiar with standard inspection techniques including blasting and dimensional inspections.
  • Working to OEM QHSE standards.
  • Strong experience with workshop equipment such as lathes, milling machines and CNC equipment.
  • Able to read and understand manufacturing drawings and work to tight tolerances, limits and fits.
  • Support field service during major outages e.g. providing special tooling, work branches, onsite inspections.

Job description

Our client is a leading engineering business specialising in the inspection, refurbishment, repair, and manufacture of turbomachinery. Due to continued growth, they are seeking an experienced Mechanical Workshop Engineer with a strong background in turbomachinery to join their skilled engineering team.

This is a hands‑on role focused on the inspection, machining, refurbishment, and assembly of turbine rotors and other rotating equipment to OEM standards. The successful candidate will have proven workshop experience working with turbomachinery, be confident handling heavy rotating components, and have a strong understanding of precision engineering, machining, and dimensional inspection.

Responsibilities
  • Experience handling rotor's up to 10 tons lifting, inspecting and fine machining.
  • Familiar with standard inspection techniques including but not limited to blasting, dimensional inspections.
  • Working to OEM QHSE standards.
  • Strong experience in the operation and understanding of most workshop equipment for example lathes, milling machines and CNC equipment.
  • Able to read and understand manufacturing drawings and work to tight tolerances, limits and fits.
  • Support field service during major outages e.g. providing special tooling, work branches, onsite inspections.
Experience
  • 5 - 10 years experience of rotating equipment - workshop or field based
  • Vocational training in engineering
  • Strong manufacturing/production/workshop background.
  • Some level of commercial and cost awareness.
