Ready to make an impact?

At Serco, our waste and recycling services help local authorities deliver reliable, sustainable waste management. We recycle over 200,000 tons of waste every year, and none of this would be possible without our vehicle mechanics, who keep our HGV refuse trucks and street cleansing vehicles in safe, working order.

We are looking for a Workshop Supervisor to join our friendly team.

You'll be entrusted to:

  • Supervise and support a small team of mechanics, while also carrying out mechanical duties yourself.
  • Oversee the day-to-day maintenance, servicing and repair of our fleet of refuse vehicles.
  • Manage workshop operations including costs, quality checks, budgets and spares.
  • Record and report accidents, incidents and MOT results.
  • Attend regional review meetings and work closely with the National Fleet Manager and Regional Workshop Manager.
  • Support the development of the Mechanical Apprenticeship Programme.
  • Ensure compliance with company policies, road transport and dangerous goods legislation (including animal by-products), and Operator's Licence requirements.

Does this sound like you?

You'll be a great fit for this role if you are

  • A fully qualified mechanic (City & Guilds / NVQ Level 3 in Heavy Vehicle Maintenance & Repair) - RCV experience preferred, but training will be provided.
  • Skilled in electrical and hydraulic fault finding, chassis servicing, and general vehicle maintenance (welding skills an advantage).
  • Willing to take on both supervisory and hands-on mechanical duties.
  • A strong communicator, both written and verbal, with a good understanding of UK and EU road transport legislation.
  • In possession of a full UK driving licence (essential, as you may need to attend vehicle breakdowns off-site).
  • We particularly welcome applications from ex-forces candidates with mechanical experience, as well as workshop or garage supervisors with HGV expertise.
