Job summary

Ipsum in Ilkeston is seeking an experienced Workshop Manager to lead the safe, efficient operation of our workshop facilities. This is a key leadership role responsible for managing workshop resources, personnel, facilities, equipment, vehicles and stock to ensure customer projects are delivered on time and to the highest quality standards.

  • Previous experience in a Workshop Manager or similar leadership role.
  • Experience managing workshop or engineering operations.
  • Strong resource planning and coordination skills.
  • Good understanding of health and safety legislation.
  • Experience managing stock and workshop assets.
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills.
  • Strong organisational skills with ability to manage multiple priorities.

Responsibilities

  • Lead and coordinate workshop operations to support the successful delivery of customer projects.
  • Plan and allocate workshop resources for build, wiring, testing and support activities.
  • Monitor workshop workload, project schedules and delivery milestones, identifying and resolving resource or programme risks.
  • Oversee panel build and workshop-based manufacturing activities, ensuring quality, safety and compliance standards.
  • Manage workshop facilities, contractors, maintenance activities and statutory inspections.
  • Take ownership of fleet management, including vehicle servicing, compliance, inspections and maintenance records.

About the role…

We're looking for an experienced Workshop Manager to lead the safe, efficient and effective operation of our workshop facilities at Core Controls. This is a key leadership role responsible for managing workshop resources, personnel, facilities, equipment, vehicles and stock to ensure customer projects are delivered safely, on time and to the highest quality standards.

Working closely with Project Managers, Engineers, Technicians, Purchasing and external suppliers, you'll drive workshop performance through strong planning, operational excellence and a culture of continuous improvement.

As a Workshop Manager you will...
  • Lead and coordinate workshop operations to support the successful delivery of customer projects
  • Plan and allocate workshop resources, ensuring build, wiring, testing and support activities are effectively managed
  • Monitor workshop workload, project schedules and delivery milestones, identifying and resolving resource or programme risks
  • Oversee panel build and workshop-based manufacturing activities, ensuring quality, safety and compliance standards are achieved
  • Manage workshop facilities, contractors, maintenance activities and statutory inspections
  • Take ownership of fleet management, including vehicle servicing, compliance, inspections and maintenance records
About you…

You are an organised and proactive workshop or manufacturing leader with experience managing operational activities within an engineering, controls, automation, manufacturing or industrial environment. You enjoy coordinating people, resources and facilities while ensuring projects are delivered efficiently, safely and to a consistently high standard.

You'll have strong leadership skills, excellent planning abilities and a practical approach to problem solving. Experience managing facilities, workshop teams, stock, assets and health and safety compliance will be key to success in this role.

Essential:
  • Previous experience in a Workshop Manager, Production Manager, Operations Supervisor or similar leadership role
  • Experience managing workshop, manufacturing or engineering operations
  • Strong resource planning and coordination skills
  • Good understanding of health and safety legislation and safe working practices
  • Experience managing stock, inventory and workshop assets
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills
  • Strong organisational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities
Desirable:
  • Experience within electrical engineering, industrial automation or control systems environments
  • Knowledge of COSHH requirements and hazardous substance management
  • Experience managing company vehicle fleets and facility maintenance activities
  • Familiarity with ISO 9001, ISO 45001, ISO 14001 and ISO 27001 standards
  • Experience driving lean manufacturing or continuous improvement initiatives
