Job summary

TIP Group at TIP Tankers Ellistown is seeking a hands-on Workshop Manager to lead our workshop, keep trailers road-ready, and drive performance with pride in doing the job well.

You’ll manage daily operations, prioritise repairs, ensure safe, compliant practices and identify efficiency opportunities while supporting a hands-on team. If you bring a technician background plus leadership and IT skills, you’ll fit our culture that puts people first.

Qualifications

• Time-served technician background with trailer & truck repair experience.
• Previous workshop or team management experience is advantageous.
• Strong organisation, admin and IT skills with ability to prioritise workloads and meet deadlines.
• Confident communicator who can challenge, question, and work autonomously.
• Proactive mindset and ownership ethos in daily tasks.
• Good sense of humour to contribute to a positive team culture.

Responsibilities

• Managing workshop operations to load, repair prioritisation, systems and processes to meet customer and business demands.
• Lead a hands-on team to maintain safe, efficient and high-performing workshop practices.
• Keep fleets road-ready by minimising downtime and identifying economical repair solutions.
• Ensure inspections, services and repairs meet company standards and comply with EHS and regulations.
• Analyse maintenance trends, manage staffing and overtime, and highlight performance and commercial opportunities.

Job description

This is a hands-on leadership role where you’ll take ownership of workshop performance, keep trailers on the road, and lead a team that takes real pride in doing the job right.

What You’ll Be Doing

• Managing workshop operations, including loading, repair prioritisation, systems, and processes to meet customer and business demands
• Working closely with a supportive, hands-on team to maintain safe, efficient, and high-performing workshop practices
• Keeping our customers’ fleets road-ready by minimising truck & trailer downtime and identifying the most economical repair solutions
• Ensuring all inspections, services, and repairs meet company standards and comply with all EHS and mandatory legislation
• Analysing maintenance trends, managing staffing and overtime, and highlighting performance and commercial opportunities to management

What You’ll Bring

• Time-served technician background or City & Guilds Level 1, 2 & 3 (or equivalent) with solid trailer & truck repair experience
• Previous workshop or team management experience (highly advantageous)
• Strong organisation, admin, and IT skills with the ability to prioritise workloads and meet deadlines
• A confident communicator who can challenge, question, and work autonomously
• A proactive mindset and a sense of ownership in your work
• A good sense of humour – we work hard, but we like a laugh too
