A leading generator hire company in the UK, specialising in providing reliable, sustainable power solutions for various sectors, such as construction/infrastructure, electrical contractors, utilities, and other applications, has an opportunity for a Workshop Maintenance Engineer.
As a Workshop Engineer specialising in large diesel engines, you will be responsible for ensuring the reliability and performance of a generator fleet.
Key Responsibilities:
- Perform routine service, maintenance, and overall upkeep of large, containerised generators (500 KVA and above) within the rental fleet.
- Follow manufacturers’ recommended service schedules to ensure optimal performance.
- Conduct rebuilds and repairs of large diesel engines (15L to 60L) from leading manufacturers such as Perkins, Cummins, and others.
- Assist with general tasks in the yard, including loading and offloading equipment.
- Operate forklift equipment as needed.
- Deliver and collect generators and ancillary equipment using company vehicles.
- Refuel generators as part of the delivery process when required.
- Provide servicing and repairs for Power Electrics’ equipment as well as customer-owned equipment on-site, when necessary.
- Participate in the company’s on-call rota system to ensure 24/7 support.
- Assist with basic maintenance tasks, including equipment cleaning, and maintain a safe, tidy work environment in line with the Company Health & Safety Policy.
- Adhere to relevant regulations and ISO standards (9001, 45001, 14001, 50001), actively supporting continuous improvement initiatives.
Skills and Experience
Technical Qualifications
- A relevant qualification in Mechanical/Electrical Engineering, Diesel Fitting, or Plant Maintenance (e.g., City & Guilds, BTEC, or equivalent).
- Alternatively, completion of an approved apprenticeship in Mechanical/Electrical Engineering or equivalent proven experience in servicing and repairing large diesel engines.
- Strong fault-finding skills and effective communication abilities.
- Effective communication skills for reporting and collaboration.
