Workshop Engineer
Location: Workshop-based, Essex
Hours: Monday to Friday, 7:30am-5:00pm
Salary: £35,000-£45,000 per year, depending on experience
Requirements: Own tools and a full UK driving licence
About the Role
We are looking for an experienced Workshop Engineer to join a growing and well-established company.
This is a predominantly workshop-based position, working within a modern, fully equipped facility and carrying out the servicing, maintenance and repair of a wide variety of plant and machinery.
You will be responsible for diagnosing faults, completing repairs and ensuring equipment is maintained to a high standard before being returned to customers.
Key Responsibilities
- Diagnose and repair mechanical, electrical and hydraulic faults across a wide range of plant and machinery.
- Carry out routine servicing, inspections and preventative maintenance.
- Complete PDI inspections and PAT testing where required.
- Carry out reactive repairs and fault finding on equipment brought into the workshop.
- Use computer diagnostic equipment to accurately identify faults.
- Strip down, repair and rebuild mechanical and hydraulic components where required.
- Complete repairs in accordance with manufacturer guidelines and industry best practice.
- Manage repairs effectively from initial diagnosis through to completion.
- Maintain accurate service records, job sheets and supporting documentation.
- Inspect equipment to identify additional repair or maintenance requirements.
- Ensure all work is completed safely, accurately and to a consistently high standard.
- Work closely with colleagues to ensure repairs are completed efficiently and equipment is returned to customers promptly.

Skills and Experience
- Previous experience working as a Plant Fitter, Workshop Engineer, Plant Engineer or similar.
- Strong knowledge of mechanical, electrical and hydraulic systems.
- Experience servicing and repairing plant, construction or heavy machinery.
- Experience using computer diagnostic equipment.
- The ability to confidently diagnose faults and complete repairs efficiently.
- Good mechanical fault-finding and problem-solving skills.
- Excellent accuracy and attention to detail.
- The ability to maintain clear and precise service documentation.
- A reliable, flexible and team-focused approach.
- The ability to remain calm and work effectively under pressure.
- A self-motivated approach and the ability to work independently.
