Smiths Equipment Hire Ltd is the Northwest’s Largest Independent Equipment Hire company with 18 ‘Hire It Centres’ across the region.

We are seeking a skilled engineer to join our Leeds Depot.

The Role:

As a Small Tools & Plant Equipment Fitter, you will be responsible for servicing, maintaining, and repairing a variety of hire equipment, including small tools, powered access, and plant machinery. You will also diagnose faults, conduct inspections, and ensure all equipment is in excellent working condition and safe before hire.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Repair, service, and maintain small tools and plant equipment
  • Diagnose faults on petrol and diesel engines and related machinery
  • Inspect and test equipment, including small powered access units
  • Work under pressure and manage your workload effectively
  • Attend customer sites to resolve breakdowns as needed
  • Maintain accurate records and ensure compliance with company standards
  • Expand your product knowledge
  • Communicate effectively with people at all levels
  • Maintain Health and Safety standards according to company policies
  • Perform other related tasks as required

Ideal Candidates Will Have:

  • Experience in repairing and maintaining small tools and plant machinery
  • Knowledge of inspecting and maintaining small powered access equipment
  • Fault-finding and diagnostic experience with petrol & diesel engines
  • Ability to diagnose faults on a range of small hire equipment
  • Ability to work independently and stay organized under pressure
  • A reliable, flexible, and proactive approach
  • Basic computer literacy and numeracy skills
  • A full, clean driving license, as attendance at breakdowns is required

Working hours: Monday to Friday (No Saturdays)
