Job summary

Post Office Ltd. is seeking a Workplace Platforms Principal Engineer to lead the technical direction, design assurance and resilience of our workplace technology estate in a large enterprise environment.

You will partner with Identity & Workplace Technology, Cyber Security and Architecture to ensure secure, reliable services, guiding platform modernisation and strategic technology decisions.

Qualifications

• Experience as a senior infrastructure engineer or principal engineer within a large enterprise environment.
• Strong hands‑on expertise across server platforms and enterprise hosting.
• Proven ability to design, review and govern complex infrastructure solutions.

Responsibilities

• Provide technical leadership for workplace platforms and infrastructure services.
• Drive platform strategy, lifecycle management and resilience across core services.
• Collaborate with Cyber Security, Architecture and Operations to meet standards.
• Produce high-level and detailed designs, documentation and service transition outputs.
• Mentor engineers and promote high technical standards across delivery teams.

What to expect

As a Workplace Platforms Principal Engineer, you will join us on our journey and undertake a highly influential role responsible for the technical leadership, design assurance, operational resilience and continual improvement of the infrastructure platforms that underpin colleague and branch technology services.

You will work collaboratively with Identity & Workplace Technology, Cyber Security, Architecture, Service Operations and supplier partners, providing technical direction and ensuring infrastructure services remain secure, resilient and aligned to agreed technology standards.

This role offers a unique opportunity to make a significant impact by shaping the future of Post Office's workplace technology estate, driving platform modernisation, improving operational resilience and influencing strategic technology decisions.

As a senior technical authority, you will provide expertise across server platforms, enterprise application hosting, backup and recovery, vulnerability management, platform monitoring, performance optimisation and infrastructure lifecycle management. You will act as a trusted subject matter expert, helping to ensure critical technology services remain robust, secure and fit for the future.

To be successful in this role, you will bring deep technical expertise across infrastructure and workplace technology platforms, alongside a proven track record of providing technical leadership within complex enterprise environments.

As a Workplace Platforms Principal Engineer, you will act as a senior technical authority, driving platform strategy, lifecycle management, service resilience and continual improvement across critical infrastructure services.

In addition to this, the ideal candidate will:

• Have proven experience as a senior infrastructure engineer, technical specialist or principal engineer within a large and complex enterprise environment.
• Demonstrate strong hands‑on expertise across Windows Server, Linux Server, Exchange, Universal Print, Microsoft PKI and PowerShell scripting.
• Have experience producing and reviewing high‑level designs, detailed technical designs, operational documentation and service transition deliverables.
• Possess extensive experience supporting major incidents, root cause analysis, problem management and complex technical escalations.
• Be experienced in infrastructure lifecycle management, including patching, vulnerability remediation, backup, restoration and disaster recovery.
• Have experience working closely with Cyber Security, Architecture, operational teams and third‑party suppliers to deliver secure and resilient technology solutions.
• Demonstrate strong stakeholder management and communication skills across both technical and non‑technical audiences.
• Be capable of balancing strategic planning, roadmap development and long‑term platform improvements with operational delivery requirements.
• Have strong documentation, governance and technical assurance skills, ensuring solutions meet agreed standards and support models.
• Be confident coaching and mentoring engineers, sharing best practice and promoting high technical standards across delivery teams.
