Job summary

Daniel Owen Ltd. is seeking an experienced Working Foreman to lead refurbishment works on a major university project in Coventry. You will supervise subcontractors, coordinate trades, ensure safety and quality, and work closely with the Site Manager to keep works on programme.

The role requires strong leadership, drawing interpretation, and a proactive approach to resolving issues in a live educational environment. Immediate start, long-term freelance contract.

Qualifications

  • Proven experience supervising refurbishment or fit-out projects.
  • Strong knowledge of construction methods, sequencing and site operations.
  • Experience coordinating multiple trades and subcontractors.
  • Ability to interpret construction drawings and specifications.
  • Strong understanding of health and safety requirements.
  • Excellent organisational and communication skills.

Responsibilities

  • Supervising and coordinating subcontractors, trades and site operatives.
  • Providing effective day-to-day leadership across the site.
  • Working closely with the Site Manager to ensure the project remains on programme.
  • Coordinating the sequencing and interface of multiple trades.
  • Reviewing construction drawings, specifications and project information.
  • Monitoring workmanship and ensuring works are completed to the required standard.
  • Identifying potential issues and resolving problems promptly to maintain progress.
  • Coordinating labour, materials, plant and deliveries.
  • Maintaining effective site logistics within a busy university environment.
  • Supporting the Site Manager with daily planning and coordination of works.
  • Carrying out regular inspections to monitor progress, quality and compliance.
  • Ensuring all works are undertaken in accordance with RAMS, site procedures and health and safety requirements.
  • Maintaining high standards of housekeeping and site presentation.
  • Assisting with snagging, inspections and preparation for handover.
  • Liaising professionally with the client, university representatives, subcontractors and other project stakeholders.
  • Ensuring disruption to students, staff and visitors is kept to a minimum.

Daniel Owen are currently recruiting on behalf of a leading national refurbishment and property services contractor for an experienced Working Foreman to join a major university refurbishment project.

The company has an established reputation for delivering refurbishment, fit-out and property improvement projects across the education, healthcare, commercial, retail and public sectors. The successful candidate will join an experienced project team delivering works within a live university environment, where careful planning, coordination and a high standard of workmanship are essential.

The Role:

As Working Foreman, you will work closely with the Site Manager and wider project team to ensure the efficient delivery of the refurbishment works.

You will provide day-to-day supervision of subcontractors and trades, coordinate site activities and ensure works are delivered safely, to programme and in accordance with the required quality standards.

About You:

We are looking for an experienced Working Foreman / Foreman / General Foreman with a strong background in refurbishment or fit-out.

  • Proven experience supervising refurbishment or fit-out projects.
  • Strong knowledge of construction methods, sequencing and site operations.
  • Experience coordinating multiple trades and subcontractors.
  • The ability to interpret construction drawings and specifications.
  • A strong understanding of health and safety requirements.
  • Excellent organisational and communication skills.
  • The confidence and authority to lead subcontractors and site operatives.
  • A proactive approach to identifying and resolving site issues.
  • A high level of attention to detail and quality.
  • The ability to work effectively within a live and operational environment.
  • A professional approach when dealing with clients, stakeholders and members of the public.
  • Previous experience working within universities, education, healthcare, commercial buildings or other live environments would be highly advantageous.
Qualifications & Requirements:
  • Valid CSCS card.
  • SSSTS or SMSTS.
  • First Aid.
  • DBS
  • Asbestos Awareness
  • Relevant construction/refurbishment experience.
  • Strong understanding of site health and safety procedures.
