Health Education and Improvement Wales (HEIW) seeks an experienced Registered Professional to lead Audiology transformation on a national scale. The role is a 0.5 WTE secondment (18.75 hours/week), part-time and flexible, open to NHS Wales professionals across healthcare science, AHP, nursing, midwifery and related fields.

The post focuses on leading a national audiology transformation programme through 2026/27.

Qualifications

• Educated to Masters level.
• Registered with the NMC/HCPC or healthcare science regulatory bodies.
• Knowledge of healthcare regulation.
• Project and/or Programme management office qualification (PRINCE2, MSP) or equivalent experience.
• Developing business cases for projects including proven experience in writing business cases.
• Managing successful programmes/projects at a senior level and ability to assess and evaluate programme/project outcomes.
• Effective partnership working with healthcare organisations.
• Knowledge of policies in Wales and the UK.

Responsibilities

• Provide leadership, strategic planning and management of audiology transformation.
• Work in a matrix management arrangement with the HEIW Associate Director of Healthcare Science Workforce Transformation.
• Lead a national 11-month programme to deliver priority actions across workforce transformation.
• Address acoustic variability by benchmarking and developing standardised ambient noise monitoring protocols.
• Develop a national plan for improvement and a skills framework for the audiology workforce.
• This secondment is for a fixed period and may extend or become permanent depending on funding.

Job summary This is an exciting opportunity to join HEIW on a secondment basis to support transformation in audiology across NHS Wales. The post is a 0.5 whole-time equivalent role (18.75 hours per week) offered on a part time, flexible basis to be agreed. The post is open to registered professionals working in NHS Wales currently; those working within healthcare science, AHP, nursing, midwifery or other professions are equally welcome to apply. The postholder will work alongside audiology service leads and the HEIW Associate Director for Workforce Transformation (Healthcare Science). Leading a 11 month project, the postholder will support developments towards transformation in audiology. The postholder will be responsible for supporting the ambitions of A Healthier Wales, the Healthcare Science in NHS Wales: Looking Forward Framework and the Future Approach for Audiology Services. This post is being offered as a secondment opportunity only. This post is for a fixed secondment period but may be extended or made permanent at the end of the secondment period depending on available funding and business requirement. Main duties of the job This role within the HEIW Nursing and Health Professions Transformation and Quality Directorate is funded to support the Welsh Government Future Approach for Audiology Services. The role encompasses leadership, strategic planning, and management of key aspects of audiology transformation. As such the postholder will be required to work in a matrix style management arrangement with the HEIW Associate Director of Healthcare Science Workforce Transformation as well as working closely with audiology, medical physics and clinical engineering service leads and colleagues from health boards and trusts of NHS Wales. This is an exciting new opportunity for an experienced Registered Professional to work at a national level to develop and lead a strategic programme of work to lead the delivery of the priority actions across workforce transformation. The focus for the 2026/27 secondment is on optimising acoustic standards in audiology services. The secondee will work with services across Wales to address variability in acoustic conditions through initial benchmarking, developing and implementing a standardised, sustainable protocol of ambient noise monitoring in the clinical settings, creating an associated skills framework for the audiology workforce, and developing a national plan for improvement. This post is secondment until 31/08/2027 due to funding.
