Job summary

James Chase is seeking a Technical Delivery Manager - Workday to join our HR technology team. The role combines hands-on Workday configuration with leadership of a capable delivery team, ensuring secure, reliable platform operations and alignment with business requirements.

This is not a traditional project management position; you will provide technical direction, manage people, and drive continuous improvement across Workday-enabled services, configurations, integrations and security.

Qualifications

• At least 5 years' experience working with Workday, including hands-on configuration.
• Strong knowledge of Workday HCM and related modules such as Absence, Compensation, Benefits or Learning.
• Good understanding of Workday security, business processes, access permissions and data governance.
• Experience supporting and optimising Workday within a complex business environment.

Responsibilities

• Lead, coach and develop a team of Workday technical, functional and support specialists.
• Oversee Workday configuration, enhancements, integrations and ongoing platform improvements.
• Manage the technical delivery roadmap, prioritising development work alongside operational requirements.
• Take ownership of Workday service delivery, including incidents, service requests, problem resolution and performance against SLAs.
• Oversee Workday security, access permissions, data governance and compliance.
• Coordinate Workday releases, testing, deployment and change management activities.
• Ensure effective tenant management, system maintenance and continuous improvement.
• Work closely with business stakeholders, technical teams and third-party suppliers.
• Identify opportunities to improve processes, automation, user experience and system performance.
• Provide technical guidance and support to colleagues, helping develop capability across the team.

We are looking for an experienced Technical Delivery Manager - Workday to join an established organisation undergoing continued investment in its HR technology and People Systems capabilities.

This is an opportunity for a technically strong Workday professional to take ownership of a business-critical platform, combining hands-on technical expertise with team leadership, service management and continuous improvement.

You will lead an established team responsible for the ongoing development, optimisation and support of Workday, ensuring the platform remains secure, reliable and aligned with business requirements.

This is not a traditional project management role. We are looking for someone who understands Workday at a technical and functional level and can provide genuine technical direction alongside managing people and delivery.

Skills & Experience Required

• At least 5 years' experience working with Workday, including hands-on configuration and technical delivery.
• Strong knowledge of Workday HCM, ideally with exposure to additional modules such as Absence, Compensation, Benefits or Learning.
• Good understanding of Workday security, business processes, access permissions and data governance.
• Experience supporting and optimising Workday within a complex business environment.
• Knowledge of Workday releases, integrations, incident management and system administration.
• Experience working with ITIL service management principles and Agile/Scrum methodologies.
• Strong communication and stakeholder management skills.
• Experience leading, coaching or mentoring technical colleagues.

Previous formal people-management experience would be beneficial, although we are equally interested in technically strong Workday Leads, Senior Workday Consultants, HRIS Managers or Workday Platform Specialists looking to progress into a broader leadership position.
