Job Description:

The Work, Health and Skills Team in Economic Affairs have a vacancy in the team for a Work and Skills Adviser (Youth Hub) to support the work, health and skills agenda.

Supporting the economy and our residents during this unprecedented time is more crucial than ever and never has the co-dependency of work and health been more apparent. This role will support young people to access work experience, volunteering, training and employment opportunities.

This post is part of a DWP funded project, The Youth Hub, which will build on the success of our single access point and our Facebook group Get Rochdale Working. The role will support young people to access education, training, or employment opportunities that will bring them closer to the labour market. The successful candidate will offer advice about the most appropriate options and understand the barriers the young people face.

This role will involve having a caseload of young people, helping them to overcome practical and skills barriers, increase their confidence to help them meet their potential, and provide specialist information on how they can develop skills for different employment sectors and job opportunities.

The successful applicant will be part of the Get Rochdale Working team, utilise social media to liaise with residents, attend events and have a good understanding of the work and skills offer across the Rochdale Borough so that they can guide residents to the right support at the right time. The team also work closely and receive referrals from a wide range of partners including; council staff, police, social housing providers, NHS, public health, social care and drug and alcohol professionals to help people to change their behaviours and improve their lives. This requires an empathetic approach and an ability to identify someone’s potential, encourage them to build on their skills and raise their aspirations

This post will require someone with excellent communication, digital and organisational skills in order to manage a caseload and reach their KPI’s, whilst maintaining an excellent level of support, keeping the young person’s goals at the centre of what we do and being flexible in the way we work.

The team, work at both a borough wide and at neighbourhood levels, coordinating the work and skills offer and embedding it in the wider offer of the council and our partners, engaging with businesses and making sure young people benefit from these opportunities and appropriate support is available for some of the most marginalised people in our communities.

Rochdale Council is a Cooperative Council, which involves changes in how it delivers its services involving residents more in the decision making process and working, thinking and acting more co-operatively as a council and borough for, ultimately, the benefit of the people and the place. This will be more important than ever going forward with more partnership opportunities being developed to help improve the lives of our residents.

This is a fixed term contract for approximately 12 months due to additional funding.
