About us

We have an exciting vacancy in the Wohl Cellular Imaging Centre (WCIC) at King’s College London.

The WCIC is a facility for advanced light microscopy, which offers the latest state-of-the-art light microscopy and imaging to the research community and the Centre serves as a learning platform for researchers and students alike.

Our mission is to promote innovation across a broad range of biological research fields as well as develop new microscope setups and imaging techniques in response to feedback from the users of Centre.

About the role

The purpose of the role is to support in the operations and maintenance of the Centre. This will include providing training and support to new and existing facility users. The role holder will support with equipment maintenance and troubleshooting.

This is an exciting opportunity to work in a busy, multi-user imaging facility, supporting cutting-edge research. The role would suite an organised, detail orientated individual who can manage their own workload and problem solve effectively. Excellent communication skills and strong interpersonal skills are essential.

We want to implement novel AI tools for microscopy segmentation and would expect a new recruit to be capable or demonstrate experience in implementing and installing existing tools in software environments such as Napari and python as well as commercial software packages.

This post will be offered on a full-time, fixed term contract for 2 years.

About you

To be successful in this role, we are looking for candidates to have the following skills and experience:

  • Master’s degree in life sciences or physical sciences or equivalent experience.
  • Experience of advanced microscopy/imaging in a research environment, inclusive of confocal imaging.
  • Strong communication skills and experience presenting information and communicating to groups.
  • Excellent interpersonal, influencing and relationship management skills.
  • Excellent planning & organisational skills, with the ability to manage competing priorities.
  • Knowledge of COSHH and implementing Health and Safety standards and protocols in a research setting.
  • Good technical understanding of imaging equipment and ability to apply learnt techniques/skills to the work context, including a broad understanding of effective approaches to train microscope users in imaging methodologies and techniques.
  • Detailed and focused approach, ability to record and manage data accurately, and in accordance with GDPR and legislation requirements.
  • Experience providing training and workshops.
  • Experience in image analysis and processing.
  • Experience in installing software environments and novel AI tools for image segmentation
