Job summary

BEAR Scotland Limited is seeking Winter Patrol Drivers to join our Operations Team in Oban during the winter season. These fixed-term roles help keep Scotland’s trunk roads open and safe, with a standby rota and occasional night shifts that may offer overtime opportunities.

Applicants should be physically fit, hold a full UK Driving Licence and LGV Class C Licence, and be willing to train toward competency on all tasks. A flexible approach to hours is essential.

Qualifications

• Full UK Driving Licence and LGV Class C Licence required.
• Knowledge of health and safety regulations.
• Willingness to undertake training and achieve competency.
• Physically fit for outdoor work.
• Able to work under pressure and meet deadlines.
• Experience as roadworker desirable; training provided.
• Flexible with shifts, standby duties and night shifts.

Responsibilities

• Carry out winter maintenance duties, including fitting gritter bodies and snow plough blades.
• Operate gritting vehicles and spread salt as needed.
• Participate in standby rota and nightshift during adverse weather.
• Respond to changing weather conditions to keep trunk roads safe.
• Ensure health, safety and welfare of the public and team.
• Undertake additional duties to support operations.
