What Is the Opportunity?

We are seeking a highly skilled and motivated Consulting Technology Engineer with strong experience in AWS and Automation, specializing in design, deployment, maintenance, and support of Travelers’ Wide Area Networks to join our network team in Redhill, Surrey.

As a consulting technology engineer, you will manage network connectivity services for Travelers’ WAN backbone, SD-WAN environment, offshore and onshore field offices, cloud network infrastructure, inter-business and cloud exchange colocation connections, and on-prem workloads in UK & North America data centers. Responsibilities include designing, configuring, deploying, testing, troubleshooting, and maintaining network components with a focus on code-based management to support connectivity for 30,000+ employees and business partners, delivering enhancements, supporting cloud network foundation, and providing hands-on support in UK data centers or offices as needed.

Operating as a Team Lead, under limited supervision, you will demonstrate a comprehensive understanding of engineering support, installation, and operations of infrastructure technologies. You will plan at a tactical level and manage technology resources for projects and functions, possibly directing project staff to design, develop, and implement complex technology solutions supporting multiple business and technology areas. You will develop and implement solutions involving multiple platforms, databases, software/hardware technologies, and tools, and participate in designing network topology, routing, switching, and security solutions. The role requires the ability to multi-task in a dynamic environment.

Travelers Europe offers flexible hybrid work arrangements, allowing employees to work three days in the office and two days remotely, subject to policy changes.

What Will You Do?

  • Design, engineer, analyze, configure, and troubleshoot the company’s WAN, cloud, and on-prem network infrastructure and services, including switches, routers, firewalls, SD-WAN, WAN protocols, and dynamic routing.
  • Implement network solutions supporting various environments: Cloud VPNs, Global WAN, Data Center fabric, remote/offshore offices, Internet/DMZ, B2B connections.
  • Maintain network quality and reliability, develop infrastructure management strategies based on infrastructure as code principles.
  • Ensure high availability of network services, monitor hardware/software, and respond promptly to issues.
  • Provide hands-on support for local network issues in London and periodically travel to UK field offices.
  • Offer third-level support for troubleshooting network issues.
  • Build and maintain alliances across technical and business communities for effective results.
  • Proactively identify issues and improvements in the network environment.
  • Collaborate with application teams to support business needs with technology solutions.
  • Research, evaluate, and recommend new technologies or redesign existing solutions.
  • Maintain detailed documentation of IT infrastructure.
  • Present findings, updates, and recommendations to management, including C-level executives.
  • Prioritize tasks and manage projects within budgets and customer priorities.
  • Apply industry best practices in network design, deployment, and operations.
  • Establish and manage quality control and security protocols.
  • Develop operational plans aligned with strategic objectives.
  • Drive departmental and corporate programs execution.
  • Leverage infrastructure technology for solutions development or redesign.
  • Engage with customers for effective results.
  • Participate in on-call rotation for 24/7 support.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

What Will Our Ideal Candidate Have?

  • Experience in Technology preferred.
  • Experience as a technical lead preferred.
  • Advanced knowledge of infrastructure technologies such as Network, Database, Server, Storage, etc., preferred.

Preferred Technical Skills and Competencies

  • Design, implement, and support network solutions: AWS, GCP, Cisco (Nexus, ASR, ISR), Firewalls, SD-WAN.
  • Automation scripting (Terraform, Python, REST API, Rundeck).
  • Network management tools (Broadcom DXNetOps, Appneta, Wireshark, DataDog).
  • Telecommunications (MPLS, Optical Networks, ISPs, CDNs, SLAs).
  • Networking protocols (BGP, OSPF, VxLAN, NFV, IPv4, QoS).
