Wheelchair Technician/Driver

We are seeking a Technician Driver to work in our established Wheelchair Service in Basingstoke. We offer an attractive working environment and friendly and supportive staff.

We support all staff and have excellent facilities for training. Our service supplies wheelchairs and seating to a wide range of service users including both adults and children.

We require a Technician/Driver to help deliver this vital aspect of the service. The post holder will be part of a team responsible for servicing, repairing and preparing for issue and delivering of all types of wheelchair and seating systems currently in use with the wheelchair service. There will also be a requirement to be available out of hours as part of the on-call emergency repair service on a roto system. This post holder must be flexible and approachable and able to work in a busy environment.

Main duties of the job

To work as a member of the delivery and repair team visiting clients in the Basingstoke Wheelchair Service region to repair, deliver and collect wheelchairs issued by the service.

To carry out wheelchair adaptations and fit accessories as requested

To recondition powered and manual wheelchairs and carry out annual planned preventative maintenance (PPMs) on powered wheelchairs.

To ensure accurate completion of all associated client paperwork.

To assist Occupational Therapists and Rehabilitation Engineer as required.

Person Specification
Qualifications
  • NVQ in appropriate discipline to level 2 or equivalent experience.
  • Full driving licence.
  • Literate and numerate to GCSE standard.
Experience
  • Working knowledge of mechanical repair and basic electrical/electronic repair.
  • Good interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work unsupervised in a variety of locations.
  • Proven competence with the use of hand tools.
  • Ability to be flexible and adaptable in the workplace.
  • Ability to adapt to changeable demands in a developing service.
  • Proven track record in maintenance or a service repair industry.
  • Electro-mechanical assembly experience. Service repair experience.
