Wheelchair Repair Engineer/Assistant

This is a full time post of 37.5 hours per week including some weekend working and bank holidays following a rota system. The post holder may be required to work flexibly to meet the needs of the service supplying support and practical engineering skills to maintain the wheelchairs that are supplied to our clients across the whole of the county.

The purpose of the role is to work independently with allocated tasks both within the department and in the most appropriate community setting to provide an effective and responsive wheelchair maintenance, delivery, collection and repair service for the Dorset Wheelchair Service. All activity must be fully compliant with all relevant national legislation and local Trust policy and procedures. This will involve travel across the whole county of Dorset.

Main duties of the job

To work independently with allocated tasks both within the department and in the most appropriate community setting to provide an effective and responsive wheelchair maintenance, delivery, collection and repair service for the Dorset Wheelchair Service. You will contribute to the supply, repair, maintenance and delivery of all types of basic and complex wheelchairs that a multi disciplined service of staff offer our clients.

Person Specification

• Good standard of general education
• Completed a revelant recognised engineering apprenticeship/education or have the equivalent knowledge gained through considerable experience.
• Must be able to demonstrate sound knowledge of key skills: Communication, Application of numbers, Information Technology, Working with other, Improving your own training, Problem solving.
• Must demonstrate the ability to use a variety of hand and power tools to a high standard.

Job Specific Experience

• Previous engineering experience in a maintenance or service environment
• Awareness of safe working procedures and Health and Safety requirements
• Recent previous experience of working within a custmer focused enviroment

Information Technology

• Basic IT skills, normally obtained through practice or practical training
• Ability to utilise computer technology for diagnostics of Powered wheelchairs

Personal Qualities/Attributes

• Ability to adapt and manage change
• Ability to use own initiative without supervision within a sphere of authority
