Qualifications

Job Summary

Main Clinical Duties of the Health Care Assistant role:

  • New registration health checks
  • Height /weight/body mass index assessments
  • Basic medical history
  • Health Promotion including advice on diet, exercise, smoking cessation Sexual Health advice.
  • Cytology Screening advice
  • Breast awareness advice
  • Smoking cessation sessions as intermediary advisor
  • Blood pressure monitoring
  • Venepuncture
  • Assist with routine screening of all asthma, COPD, diabetic and IHD patients

Main duties of the job

  • Assist with Spirometry under supervision of primary care nurses
  • Urinalysis
  • ECG recording
  • Act as chaperone/assist with clinical examination as required
  • Act as patients advocate promoting patients point of view to others
  • Maintain accurate records of patient care in electronic format using correct codes
  • Report changes in condition of patient/areas of concern to relevant member of clinical staff and ensure documented action is taken
  • To follow relevant protocols, guidelines and best practice, e.g. local protocols, NICE guidance

General Responsibilities

    • To contribute to safe working environment for all through adherence to health and safety management systems
    • Correctly handle confidential information in line with your duties, and to actively support information governance policies, processes and systems
    • Support the services approach to equal opportunities, acting in line with the services equality and diversity policy
    • To always work within boundaries of ones competence, taking personal responsibility to keep abreast of change
    • To always act in a professional manner towards patients and staff
    • Any other duty as requested
