Position: Womens Team Psychologist

Location: Chadwell Heath, London

Contract: Full-Time (including some evenings & weekends)

Reports to: Head of Academy Psychology and Head of Safeguarding Womens Team

The Job Role

We are looking for a compassionate, skilled, and culturally aware Psychologist to join our progressive Womens Department. Working across our First Team and Academy, youll deliver integrated psychological support and wellbeing strategies that enhance both performance and personal development, while contributing to a strong safeguarding culture.

Key Responsibilities

  • Psychological Support & Performance Enhancement.
  • Deliver tailored 1:1 and group psychological support across First Team and Academy levels.
  • Use a blend of observation, intervention, and training-ground presence to embed psychological best practices.
  • Conduct profiling and develop evidence-based psychological action plans for individual and team development.
  • Multidisciplinary Collaboration & Safeguarding
  • Work seamlessly within the MDT (coaching, medical, player care, safeguarding, and operations).
  • Support the mental health screening process and participate in safeguarding meetings and referrals.
  • Align your work with safeguarding protocols, with oversight from the Head of Womens Safeguarding.

Education & Development

  • Engage and educate players, parents, and staff on key topics related to mental health, wellbeing, identity, resilience, and performance.
  • Contribute to CPD sessions and share innovative approaches to psychological welfare within elite sport.

Compliance & Reporting

  • Maintain confidential, professional records in line with HCPC and BPS standards.
  • Assist with preparation for annual welfare audits, including data and documentation of interventions.
  • Provide assessment reports and recommendations as part of the clubs mental health referral pathway.

Requirements

Person Specification:

Essential Skills & Qualifications

  • BPS-accredited BSc (Hons) in Psychology (or equivalent)
  • MSc in Applied Sport & Exercise Psychology (BPS-accredited)
  • Completion of QSEP/SEPAR and HCPC registration
  • Experience working with elite athletes and within a multidisciplinary team
  • High emotional intelligence and a player-centred, female-focused approach
  • Proven ability to create psychologically safe, inclusive environments
  • Working knowledge of safeguarding protocols (including mental health risks)
  • Availability to work flexible hours, including matchdays and travel

Desirable

  • Experience in elite womens football or high-performance sporting environments
  • Familiarity with systems such as TMA, PMA, or Kitman Labs
  • Experience managing sensitive disclosures and referrals in line with safeguarding frameworks
  • Track record in supporting female athletes through transitions, injury recovery, and identity development

Successful candidates must undergo essential background checks before starting their employment, which may include screening of social media. The type of DBS check required will depend on the responsibilities of the position and may be basic, standard, or enhanced.

The successful candidate agrees to proactively identify and respond appropriately to any concerns, and follow the Club's Safeguarding reporting procedures to report allegations of abuse, poor practice, or anything that may impact the welfare of a child, young person, or adult at risk without delay, within 24 hours, or as otherwise directed by the Clubs or the West Ham Foundation Safeguarding Team.
