Job description

This one-year opportunity provides training and hands-on experience in clinical leadership and management. This opening is only available to Optometrists.

Working directly to a Senior Lead along with their teams across NHS Wales and engaging with a wide variety of stakeholders, this role offers a significant career development opportunity for fellows to build networks, help shape national and regional initiatives, whilst supporting the delivery of key programmes of work.

This post is fixed term/secondment for 12 months due to meet the needs of the service. Should you be successful at interview you will be seconded over on your contractual salary

Main duties of the job

Successful candidates will undertake a leadership and management project from proposals that have been submitted by healthcare organisations in Wales. Leadership fellows will be supported in their host organisations by project supervisors. An indicative timetable will be provided detailing an extensive academic element of the programme which is provided by Glyndwr University, along with sessions delivered throughout the year as part of the HEIW Expert Series.

Qualifications and/or knowledge
  • Professional, technical or academic qualifications or knowledge required or the training undertaken or demonstrable experience e.g medicine degree or degree associated with professional practice if another healthcare professional).
  • Must be employed at A4C Band 7 - Band 8a at time of application
Experience
  • Extensive knowledge of specialist areas acquired through postgraduate diploma or equivalent experience or training plus further specialist knowledge or experience to master's level equivalent.
  • Evidence of post qualifying and continuing professional development.
  • Evidence of involvement in leadership and management commensurate with experience, with reflection on personal impact.
  • Ability to work with others effectively in a multi-professional team.
  • Experience of managing or motivating a team/virtual team.
  • Experience of reviewing performance of individuals.
  • Experience of identifying and interpreting national policy.
  • Comprehensive experience of project principles and tools such as Prince 2 and Managing Successful Projects.
  • Have an understanding of the background to and aims of current healthcare policy and appreciate the implications of this on engagement.
