Job description

We are looking for a qualified, experienced Play Therapist to join our team. The position is part-time, 22.2 hours per week. This is a unique opportunity for a highly motivated individual to contribute to the development and delivery of a specialist wellbeing service aligned with the strategic vision for families in Cardiff. What is the Family Wellbeing Service?

The Family Wellbeing Service (FWBS) is Welsh Government funded, operating within the Families First strategy. It is part of the 'Early Help' offer in Cardiff. You will be part of a team providing therapeutic support to parents/carers, children, and young people with an identified need for intensive support related to their emotional and mental health and wellbeing. The aim is to improve emotional health, wellbeing, and resilience, supporting the development of effective coping strategies to better handle problems, stresses, and difficulties.

Main duties of the job
What does the role involve?

As a Wellbeing Practitioner - Play Therapist, you will work as part of a team, undertaking assessments and delivering professional play therapy services to children and young people on a 1:1 or group basis. You will practice ethically, adhering to your regulatory body's Code of Ethics and Barnardo's policies and procedures. You will also contribute to the Family Wellbeing Service by providing consultation, information, and support.

You will have:
  • A professional qualification in Play Therapy.
  • Registration with a relevant professional body, BAPT accreditation, and registration, or UKCP equivalent.
  • Experience planning and undertaking complex clinical interventions and evaluating therapeutic outcomes.
  • Knowledge and experience of safeguarding children, young people, and vulnerable adults.
  • Experience working as part of a multidisciplinary team.
  • Experience conducting assessments, including risk assessments.
  • Experience collaborating with various agencies.
  • Experience advising and developing pathways for sustainable, long-term improvements for individuals.

Key Responsibilities:
For Service Users:
  • Work with children, young people, and families on a one-to-one or group basis using various interventions to identify needs and achieve positive outcomes.
  • Partner with parents and carers to empower them and improve outcomes for their children.
  • Collaborate with children's services, health agencies, and community services to provide effective support.
  • Handle complex cases and contribute to service development.
  • Follow safeguarding and child protection procedures.
For Resources:
  • Manage equipment and resources related to service delivery.
  • Record case notes, contribute to reports, and produce management information.
For People (Staff, Students, Volunteers):
  • Supervise staff, students, or volunteers, including work allocation and support.
For Health and Safety:
  • Promote and maintain health, safety, and security in the workplace.
