Are you dedicated to supporting young people’s wellbeing and ready to join a dynamic school pastoral team?

GSL Education are looking for a full-time Welfare Support Assistant to join a secondary school in Havant. This role will commence in September or October 2025, dependent on notice periods. You will work closely with the Pastoral Team, supporting students who have been removed from classes due to behavioural challenges, and those experiencing Anxiety, Depression, and other SEMH needs.

This position offers opportunities for career growth with progression through pay grades as you gain experience.

Responsibilities of a Welfare Support Assistant:

  • Work alongside the Pastoral Team to support students with behavioural difficulties
  • Provide welfare support to students experiencing SEMH challenges such as Anxiety and Depression
  • Support students reintegrating back into the classroom after removal
  • Help create a safe and supportive environment promoting positive student wellbeing
  • Collaborate with teaching and support staff to monitor student progress and wellbeing

Welfare Support Assistant Qualifications:

  • Experience working with young people, ideally within a school or pastoral setting
  • CACHE Level 2/3 or NVQ Level 2/3 in Teaching Assistant or similar is desirable but not mandatory
  • A degree in SEN, Psychology or a similar field.
  • Compassionate, patient, and resilient approach
  • Strong communication and teamwork skills
  • Commitment to safeguarding and promoting student welfare
  • Have an up-to-date CV (covering the last ten years, barring any unexplained gaps) and an enhanced DBS registered to the Update Service (or be willing to apply for one)
