Job summary

Envision Education is seeking a Welfare Officer for a welcoming primary school in Harrow. The role is full-time, Monday to Friday, focusing on pupil welfare, attendance, safeguarding and wellbeing across the school, working closely with leaders, families and external agencies.

The ideal candidate will have paediatric first aid, strong organisational and communication skills, and the ability to maintain accurate records while supporting health and safety, inclusion and pastoral care within a busy

  • Paediatric First Aid qualification.

  • Confident using ICT systems and Microsoft Office applications.

Job Description

Envision Education is currently recruiting for a dedicated and compassionate Welfare Officer to join a welcoming and inclusive primary school. This is a full-time role, Monday to Friday, supporting the health, wellbeing, attendance, safeguarding, and welfare of pupils across the school.

This is a key role within the school community and would suit an individual who is passionate about supporting children and families, promoting wellbeing, and ensuring pupils are able to thrive both academically and personally. The successful candidate will work closely with school leaders, staff, families, external agencies, and pupils to provide high-quality pastoral care and support.

Responsibilities
Supporting the Care and Wellbeing of the School Community
  • Manage all aspects of pupil attendance, including reporting and liaising with the Local Authority Participation Team.
  • Lead and manage lunchtime supervision and lunchtime staff.
  • Coordinate pupil and staff wellbeing initiatives.
  • Support the daily operational management of the school.
  • Work alongside the Site Manager and School Business Manager to promote health and safety across the school.
  • Support the school's ethos and values through positive relationships with pupils, staff, and families.
Children's Health and Wellbeing
  • Liaise with families to understand and support children's health needs.
  • Work alongside external professionals to ensure children receive appropriate care and support.
  • Promote healthy lifestyles and wellbeing throughout the school.
  • Manage the safe storage and administration of medicines.
  • Ensure staff are appropriately trained and informed regarding pupils' medical needs.
  • Maintain medical supplies, first aid equipment, and the medical room.
  • Support educational visits by ensuring appropriate welfare and medical arrangements are in place.
  • Contribute to PSHE and wellbeing initiatives across the school.
  • Maintain accurate welfare, accident, and incident records.
  • Review and support the implementation of welfare and first aid procedures.
Lunchtime Leadership and Supervision
  • Support the management of dietary requirements, allergies, and catering arrangements.
  • Lead and motivate the lunchtime team to provide a safe and enjoyable environment.
  • Ensure lunchtime staff are fully aware of pupils' medical and behavioural needs.
  • Promote positive behaviour and wellbeing during lunchtimes.
  • Work with pupils and staff to improve lunchtime experiences and opportunities.
  • Listen to pupil voice and implement improvements where appropriate.
Inclusion, Safeguarding and Wellbeing
  • Provide administrative support to the school's inclusion and safeguarding teams.
  • Support the review and implementation of policies relating to safeguarding, behaviour, equality, diversity, and inclusion.
  • Work collaboratively with staff to ensure pupils receive appropriate support.
Supporting Learning
  • Act as a positive advocate for children and their educational development.
  • Supervise pupils during breaktimes as required.
  • Support extracurricular activities, clubs, and wider school events.
  • Contribute to the wider life of the school community.

Experience, Training and Qualifications
Essential
  • Paediatric First Aid qualification.
  • Excellent organisational and time management skills.
  • Strong communication skills with the ability to build positive relationships with children, families, and staff.
  • Excellent written and spoken English.
  • Ability to maintain accurate records, write reports, and manage confidential information.
  • Confident using ICT systems and Microsoft Office applications.
Desirable
  • Previous experience working within a school environment.
  • Experience supporting children of primary school age.
  • Experience in administration, attendance, welfare, safeguarding, or pastoral support.
  • Knowledge of school procedures relating to attendance, wellbeing, and safeguarding.
