Job description

Welding QA/QC Engineer

Responsibilities include:

  • Prepare, review, and approve Welding Procedure Specifications (WPS), Procedure Qualification Records (PQR), and Welder Qualification Test Records (WQTR).
  • Ensure welding procedures comply with applicable codes/standards (e.g. EN ISO 15614, ASME IX, AWS D1.1).
  • Maintain welding logs, registers, and consumable traceability records.
  • Prepare and maintain Inspection & Test Plans (ITPs).
  • Compile full QA/QC dossiers, including Manufacturing Data Reports (MDR) and final Quality Dossier packs.
  • Coordinate with notified bodies and certification authorities as required.

Welder Qualification & Supervision:

  • Verify welder qualifications and certifications are valid and aligned with project scope.
  • Conduct or witness welder qualification tests.
  • Supervise, monitor, and support welders to ensure compliance with WPS.

Inspection & Testing:

  • Perform pre-weld checks (materials, fit-up, joint preparation, consumables).
  • Conduct in-process and post-weld inspections (visual and dimensional).
  • Coordinate Non-Destructive Testing (UT, RT, MT, PT) and review reports.
  • Witness destructive testing where required.

Quality Control & Compliance:

  • Ensure compliance with project specifications, codes, and client requirements.
  • Implement and monitor ITPs at all stages of fabrication and erection.
  • Manage welding consumables, including storage, batch control, and issuance.
  • Raise, track, and close out Non-Conformance Reports (NCRs).

Records & Reporting:

  • Maintain weld maps and traceability for welders, joints, and materials.
  • Compile and submit QA/QC documentation packs for client approval.
  • Issue daily and weekly welding inspection reports.

Coordination & Communication:

  • Liaise with site supervisors, fabrication teams, and client inspectors.
  • Attend and contribute to QA/QC and site coordination meetings.
  • Support internal, client, and third-party audits.

Health, Safety & Environment:

  • Ensure all welding activities are carried out in line with HSE procedures (permits to work, PPE, fume extraction, fire safety).
