Job summary

Altrad Babcock is seeking an Assistant Welding Engineer to support the Asset Management sector by providing welding engineering input and maintaining strong client relationships across the UK and overseas.

You will assist with materials, welding, heat treatment, and NDT advice, review documentation, and contribute to welding and procedural development within energy, petrochemical, and pharmaceutical sectors.

Qualifications

• Degree or Diploma in Metallurgy or a related Engineering discipline.
• Preferably working towards or holding EWE and/or CEng status.
• Strong understanding of high‑pressure and high‑temperature process plant environments.
• Knowledge of materials behaviour and fabrication challenges in demanding service conditions.
• Strong problem‑solving skills.
• Ability to work as part of a team and on own initiative.
• Strong technical knowledge of joining technologies.
• Good communication skills and ability to build strong working relationships.

Responsibilities

• Assist in providing materials, welding, heat treatment, and NDT advice and procedures to sites.
• Assist with review of welding-related documentation.
• Support welding and procedural development activities.
• Provide technical support across energy, petrochemical, and pharmaceutical sectors.
• Maintain strong client relationships and develop site personnel relationships.
• Support internal training activities when required.
• Apply knowledge of joining technologies to projects and operations.
• Collaborate within the Welding Engineering team and work independently when required.
