Job Description: Welding Engineer - Submarines

Location: Derby - Office based

Shift: Day shift, with potential for a 2-shift pattern (shift premium paid)

Overview: An exciting opportunity for a Manufacturing Engineer within the Welding Team at Rolls-Royce Submarines. Join us to work on projects supporting the Royal Navy's submarine fleet, specializing in nuclear propulsion systems.

Role Responsibilities:
  1. Develop and implement welding techniques across manual, automated, and mechanized processes.
  2. Influence design and manufacturing of key components within the Pressurised Water Reactor system.
  3. Ensure appropriate welding procedures and processes are selected.
  4. Drive continuous improvement projects from concept to implementation.
  5. Support manufacturing issues, non-conformance, root cause analysis, and welders' qualifications.
  6. Participate in manufacturing meetings to ensure metrics are met.
Qualifications & Skills:
  • Experience in developing and qualifying welding techniques per relevant standards.
  • Knowledge of boiler and pressure vessel design standards.
  • Strong focus on safety, quality, and regulatory compliance.
  • Project management skills with the ability to communicate complex information effectively.
  • Ability to work within a high-pressure environment and collaborate across teams.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Professional welding qualifications (e.g., IIW/EWF Welding Engineer/Technologist).
  • Engineering degree or equivalent experience in welding engineering.
