The role

As a Welder, you will help meet project needs by working on submarines that support national security.

Day-to-day, you will produce components for the maintenance and modification of submarines and naval vessels.

  • Primarily working on submarines
  • Working on ships and in a factory environment
  • Interpreting engineering drawings and executing welding tasks with appropriate tools and machinery

This is a full-time role, 35 hours per week, based on-site at Devonport Royal Dockyard.

There is an opportunity for Optimised Working Patterns (OWP), a temporary variation supporting 7-day working arrangements. Details of shift patterns, pay, and durations are available from the hiring manager.

Shift cycles typically involve 4-week rotations, either day/back shift or day/night shift, with remuneration details provided accordingly.

Essential experience for the Welder:

  • Ability to read engineering drawings and interpret work instructions
  • Competence in using general workshop tools and machinery specific to welding
  • Experience in marine engineering, ideally with Royal Navy ships, submarines, Royal Fleet Auxiliary vessels, or large commercial ships; relevant experience in other engineering sectors considered
  • Experience working within a marine engineering environment

Qualifications:

  • Time-served apprenticeship in marine or naval engineering
  • Indentured apprenticeship relevant to the role
  • Level 3 Engineering qualification; Level 2 candidates with extensive experience may also be considered

Security Clearance

The successful candidate must be able to achieve and maintain Security Check (SC) clearance.
