Job Title: Welder

The role

As a Welder, you'll contribute to projects that support national security by working on submarines and naval vessels. Your responsibilities include:

  1. Working primarily on submarines
  2. Working on ships and within a factory environment
  3. Reading engineering drawings to interpret work instructions and perform welding with appropriate tools and machinery

This is a full-time role, 35 hours per week, based on-site at Devonport Royal Dockyard.

Essential experience
  • Ability to read engineering drawings and interpret work instructions
  • Competence in using general workshop tools and machinery specific to welding
  • Experience in the marine engineering industry, ideally with Royal Navy ships and submarines, Royal Fleet Auxiliary vessels, or large commercial ships; relevant experience from other engineering sectors will also be considered
  • Experience working within a marine engineering environment
Qualifications
  • Time-served apprentice within marine or naval engineering
  • Indentured Apprenticeship relevant to the role
  • Level 3 Modern Apprenticeship
  • Level 3 Engineering qualification relevant to the role, or Level 2 with extensive experience
Security Clearance

The successful candidate must be able to achieve and maintain Security Check (SC) security clearance. Note that many positions are subject to national security clearance and Trade Control restrictions, which may be influenced by nationality, citizenship, and residency.
