Job summary

National Trust Standen in East Grinstead is seeking a friendly Welcome & Service Team Member to greet visitors, provide information and help ensure a memorable visit. You’ll be the public face of the property, delivering great customer service and answering questions.

The role is fixed-term until 28 February 2027 with annualised hours; 5-week pattern including 3 weekends in 5, with specific shifts. A simple online assessment replaces a CV.

Summary

As the public face of our properties, you’ll provide a warm, friendly welcome, give information about the property, answer questions and make sure everyone has an enjoyable and memorable visit.

Salary: £13.25 per hour

Contract/duration: Fixed term until 28th February 2027. This role is based on annualised hours, where the amount of hours you work each month will vary, however your salary will be paid in equal instalments. This will be a total of 331 hours over the duration of your contract.

Hours/working pattern: The working pattern for this role alternates on a 5 week pattern, which includes working 3 weekends out of 5. What that looks like:

• Week 1, 2 & 3: Saturday & Sunday (9:30am - 3:30pm)
• Week 4: Thursday & Friday (9:30am - 3:30pm)
• Week 5: Ad-hoc

For this role, you’ll need to complete our online assessment instead of using a C.V. or online application form. This will help us understand more about your strengths and give you more information on the role.

What It's Like To Work Here

Reporting to the Welcome Manager, you’ll be part of a team of staff working at Standen House & Garden aiming to deliver a memorable experience for all our customers & members - whether that be sales, providing information, or maybe even directing cars in the car park.

What You'll Be Doing

Day to day, you’ll deliver a great all-round customer service experience. You’ll be on hand answering queries and listening to what our visitors need so you can share the right information. On busier days, you may be out in the car park helping to direct traffic. Your role is to make sure our visitors have the best day they can. You’ll have the chance to be involved in different aspects of the visitor experience, from key property events to social media promotion - no two days are the same. Great visitor experiences are in our nature, and we believe everyone should feel welcomed, appreciated and more engaged because of the excellent service you provide. This role would suit anyone with enthusiasm for delivering great customer service.
