Job summary

Sodexo is seeking a Weekend Cook to support the Burdett Lodge Approved Premises in Derby. You will work Saturday and Sunday, 12:00–18:00, delivering nutritious meals to residents and staff in a supportive residential setting.

Qualifications

Responsibilities

• £12.91 per hour
• 12 hours per week

Sodexo as a Cook at Burdett Lodge Approved Premises (AP), 6 Bass Street, Derby, DE22 3BR, where your meals will help create a welcoming and supportive residential environment.

Applicants must be aged 18 or over and able to provide valid photographic identification.

Your working environment - Approved Premises

This role is based within Approved Premises, a residential setting supporting people released from prison as they return to life in the community. Residents receive enhanced supervision and support, with a focus on rehabilitation and reducing reoffending.

This is a lone-working kitchen role. You'll take responsibility for the weekend food service, preparing meals for residents and staff independently while communicating with the wider site team.

What you'll do

• Prepare, cook and serve nutritious, well-presented meals in line with planned menus and dietary requirements.
• Organise your workload so meals are ready and served on time.
• Manage kitchen operations during your shifts, working confidently and independently.
• Maintain high standards of cleanliness and hygiene throughout the kitchen and dining areas.
• Monitor and replenish ingredients, utensils and cleaning supplies as needed.
• Follow food safety, allergen and health and safety procedures.
• Communicate with site staff about meal requirements, supplies and any concerns.

What you'll bring

• Previous experience in a cooking or catering role, with a sound understanding of food safety and kitchen procedures.
• Confidence preparing meals and managing a kitchen independently.
• Strong organisational skills, with the ability to manage your time and prioritise tasks.
• Good communication and customer service skills.
• A reliable, practical and self-motivated approach.
• A willingness to work within the Approved Premises environment and maintain professional boundaries.
• The ability to follow site procedures and work with the wider team to support a safe, welcoming environment.
