The Economist Group is hiring an Engineering Manager - Web to lead a team of web engineers and shape economist.com’s future. This player-coach role combines people leadership with hands-on coding and architectural input.

Reporting to the Head of Product & Engineering - Web, you will collaborate across Product, Design and QA to deliver fast, accessible experiences for anonymous, registered and subscribing users, with a focus on mobile web and Core Web Vitals.

Qualifications

• Experience leading web engineering teams.
• Hands-on coding and architectural input.
• Experience with React, Next.js, Node.js, TypeScript.
• Collaborates with product, design and QA.
• Focus on mobile web accessibility and performance.

Responsibilities

• Lead and grow a team of web engineers with mentorship.
• Review code and contribute to architecture.
• Own delivery planning and remove blockers.
• Partner with Product, Design, QA and backend teams to convert roadmap into plan.
• Translate product and business requirements into technical specs.
• Use metrics to inform priorities and outcomes.
• Uphold engineering standards for quality, testing, accessibility and release.
• Improve mobile web performance and Core Web Vitals.
• Oversee operational health and observability.
