Are you a skilled Web Developer who’s passionate about creating engaging, accessible, and user-focused websites? Ready to see your work directly impact thousands of students? ARU Students’ Union is on the lookout for a dynamic, forward-thinking developer to help us shape our digital future.

What You’ll Be Doing

  • Collaborate closely with the Marketing team to design, develop, and maintain our main website.
  • Lead on the development of interactive microsites for major Union campaigns and events like Welcome Week, The Elections, SU Awards, and more.
  • Continuously improve our digital platforms — monitor performance, identify enhancements, and introduce new functionality to improve UX.
  • Ensure robust website functionality and troubleshoot any issues swiftly and effectively.
  • Maintain clear and comprehensive documentation, coding standards, and version control protocols.
  • Operate the website helpdesk, supporting Union teams with web-related requests and changes.
  • Stay current on web trends and technologies, and drive the adoption of best practices.
  • Ensure full compliance with accessibility standards and data privacy regulations.
  • Make proactive, strategic recommendations for long-term improvements and user experience upgrades

What You’ll Bring

  • Proven experience or a qualification in Computer Science, Web Development, or a related field.
  • Demonstrable experience in web development and design — paid or voluntary.
  • Proficiency in front-end development using HTML, CSS, JavaScript, and Bootstrap.
  • Experience with content management systems (e.g. WordPress, Drupal, or similar).
  • Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills.
  • Strong communication and collaboration abilities.
  • A confident, adaptable approach to working with a wide range of teams — all with unique needs.
  • Solid organisational skills with the ability to manage and prioritize competing tasks.
