Overview

Job Title: Weapon System Equipment Project Engineer

Location: Bristol (Hybrid: 2–3 days on-site)

Salary: Up to £60,000

We are working in partnership with a leading defence organisation to recruit multiple Weapon System Equipment Project Engineers (RMO) to support cutting-edge directed energy and high-performance sub-systems. Candidates may specialise in one of four key areas: Laser Source, Beam Director, Fire Enable System, or Performance Sub-Systems. These roles focus on delivering, integrating, and certifying complex electro-optical, mechanical, and electrical systems.

Key Responsibilities
  • Deliver and integrate high-performance sub-systems to final assembly, integration, and test
  • Manage technical interfaces with external partners and suppliers
  • Lead technical work packages and mitigate risks across complex projects
  • Support functional integration and compliance of sub-systems within wider system definitions
  • Produce and maintain technical and certification documentation, including safety-related aspects
  • Engage stakeholders to clarify requirements and drive project progress
Required Skills & Experience
  • Experience delivering complex electro-optical, mechanical, or electrical sub-systems
  • Knowledge of high-energy lasers, beam directors, safety-critical systems, or data-logging and image processing hardware
  • Supplier management and development of technical statements of work
  • System integration and sub-system compliance expertise
  • Technical leadership within multi-partner defence projects
Desirable Traits
  • Experience in early lifecycle project development
  • Strong stakeholder engagement and communication skills
  • Experience integrating multiple sub-systems into larger platforms
Not Suitable For
  • Limited experience in defence or high-performance sub-system projects
  • Weak system integration or project management capabilities
  • Limited knowledge of hardware/software interfaces or safety-critical requirements
