Job description

We are looking for conscientious individuals with a keen eye for detail and an interest in public safety to assist with regular risk assessments of our customer-operated structures, which include swing bridges, lift bridges, and locks.

The role involves visiting sites across the Yorkshire region to assess the condition of the structures from a visitor’s perspective and update our documentation. Some assessments will be first-time assessments with no previous records, while others will be re-assessment visits to identify any significant changes since the last visit. We have opportunities across the region, so if you are happy to travel, that’s great; otherwise, we can tailor the opportunity to be closer to home for the right candidates.

Each site visit will typically require up to half a day, with an additional half day for write-up time following the visit. Full training will be provided.

Why we want you

Our Waterside Specialists help maintain the sustainability of the waterways by developing higher levels of skills through volunteering.

Volunteering with the Trust encompasses many activities and welcomes people with a wide range of skills, from practical to surveying, indoors and outdoors. These skills may include working alongside existing specialists within the Trust or bringing skills that we currently lack. We have a variety of skilled activities you could participate in.

The skills you need

This role is suitable for individuals with specialist skills in various professional disciplines. While we support skill development within the Trust, we are eager to welcome those who bring existing experience and expertise that they are willing to share.
