Job summary

Coffey is seeking a Mechanical Design Engineer in the United Kingdom to deliver innovative mechanical designs for water and wastewater infrastructure. You will work with multiple engineering teams to develop detailed designs, hydraulics, and plant layouts, ensuring safety and quality throughout the project lifecycle.

Key responsibilities include developing PFDs and P&IDs, coordinating with suppliers, and applying software tools to achieve project objectives.

Qualifications

• Strong understanding of quality, safety and commercial drivers in infrastructure design.

Responsibilities

• Collaborate with Senior Mechanical Engineer, Design Manager, Innovation Manager, CAD Engineers and other disciplines to deliver Coffey projects.
• Perform preliminary and detailed design of water/wastewater treatment plants based on data provided; achieve contract goals.
• Design mechanical aspects for water and wastewater delivery networks and associated plant, including pumps, stations, filters, hydraulic design, and valve/pipe selection.
• Research and development of new equipment and process solutions.
• Develop relationships with supply chain partners and customers.
• Apply software to provide advice and solutions to project objectives.
• Adopt relevant design standards to streamline tasks.
• Develop equipment drawings and plant layouts.
• Develop PFDs, P&IDs and equipment schedules.
• Develop hydraulic, energy, and mechanical calculations as part of detailed design.
• Ensure health & safety, ethics and quality requirements are respected.
• Manage time effectively within timelines.
• Review specifications and contract documents.
• Maintain commercial awareness and stay informed on industry trends.
• Undertake CPD and oversee related project aspects as required.
• Track projects through commercial reporting and programme management.
• Fluent written and spoken English; hold a full clean Irish/UK driver's license.
