Job Description

Are you ready to shape the future of water infrastructure? We are looking for a Senior Mechanical Engineer to support our Water Solutions team in Basingstoke. You will work on projects ranging from small rural sites to large multi-million-pound schemes, supporting Southern Water's £3.7 billion capital delivery programme.

You will contribute to frameworks supporting water and wastewater projects, collaborating with multidisciplinary teams and delivering innovative, sustainable solutions. Your role involves producing feasibility studies, detailed designs, technical specifications, and site surveys, ensuring high-quality outcomes within budget and schedule.

Responsibilities
  1. Develop feasibility studies, design, and construction support documentation.
  2. Create design drawings, select mechanical plant, and specify equipment.
  3. Collaborate with civil, electrical, process, and mechanical teams nationwide.
  4. Ensure technical quality, contribute to bids, and liaise with clients and stakeholders.
  5. Manage project budgets, schedules, and quality standards.
  6. Design mechanical systems for water and wastewater facilities, including pumps, valves, and odour control systems.
  7. Conduct site surveys and liaise with clients, contractors, and suppliers.
  8. Produce technical documentation such as plant layouts, specifications, and P&IDs.
  9. Perform pump system analysis and headloss calculations.
Qualifications
  1. Degree in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent.
  2. Progress towards Chartered Engineer status (e.g., with IMechE).
  3. Experience in water and wastewater engineering projects.
  4. Proven ability to deliver technical designs, reports, and drawings.
