Job description

Thames Water is the UK’s largest water and wastewater company. We make a daily difference to our 15 million customers by supplying 2.6 billion litres of water through 32,000 km of pipes, ensuring taps flow and toilets flush.

At Thames Water, every action, big or small, matters every day. Water is essential to life, so our business is always operational.

What you’ll be doing as a Water Quality Technician

Each year, we conduct over 500,000 tests on samples collected from treatment works, reservoirs, and customer properties to ensure the highest quality drinking water.

  • Collect samples from treatment works, reservoirs, and customer sites, requiring regular cold calling; strong customer service skills are essential. You'll test these samples as per requested parameters, using equipment provided in your van, including bottles and thermometers.
  • Manage sampling records and equipment maintenance in compliance with UKAS and DWI standards.
  • Plan your workload, coordinate with the Technical Scheduling team, CSWQ group, and Process Team for technical data, and with the Regulatory and Performance team for reactive work, following company protocols.
  • Investigate potential supply issues, plan routes, and sampling programs effectively.
  • Arrange customer appointments, handle sampling of complaints, and participate in events.
  • Participate in a rotating out-of-hours schedule, including weekends, on a five-week rotation.
  • Drive a large commercial van regularly, navigating city centers, rural areas, and enclosed estates confidently.
What you should bring to the role
  • Excellent customer service skills for home visits.
  • Confidence in cold calling residential and commercial properties.
  • Organizational skills and ability to work independently.
  • Attention to detail for maintaining accurate records of samples.
  • Knowledge of or willingness to learn about the water industry and processes.
  • Strong communication skills, both written and oral, and computer literacy.
  • A clean driving license, with proficiency in route planning and safe driving in various environments.
What’s in it for you?
  • Hourly pay rate: £14.03.
  • Location: Walton-on-Thames, KT12 2EG, predominantly field-based.
  • Duration: 26 weeks.
  • Hours: 38 hours per week.

Please note, you will be on assignment at Thames Water via Pertemps.
