We are looking for Water Quality Scientist who would like to help us reach our mission to “earn customer loyalty and drive business growth by providing consistently excellent service”.

This is a fixed term contract until 20 September 2026.

Responsibilities
  • To support the delivery of regulatory reporting to strict deadlines which includes drinking water safety plans, compliance data, and event reporting.
  • Manage own projects and investigatory work to ensure delivery against project plans and agreed timelines.
  • Use performance and analytical data to inform and where necessary update the company’s risk assessments to ensure compliance.
  • Provide exceptional customer service by offering water quality advice and when required, investigatory work.
  • Advise other areas of the business on specific water quality matters, including emergency incidents.
  • Review operational processes, identifying opportunities for improvements in efficiencies.
  • Support the Water Quality Team by delivering on internal and external targets, particularly during water quality events.
  • To join the water quality standby rota and provide water quality advice and support to the out of hours team.
  • Take action to maintain public health by identifying risks and ensuring that the appropriate remedial measures are taken including liaison with UKHSA, LHA, water companies and other regulators after consultation with Senior Scientist.
  • Implement and further improve the quality management systems, including the adoption of best working practices.
  • Deputise for the Senior Water Scientist as required.
Qualifications
  • Degree level in appropriate technical discipline or hold Rsci, IEng or REnvP.
  • Technically competent on the full Microsoft suite of software.
Experience/Knowledge
  • Experience of working in a relevant scientific field.
  • A strong understanding of water quality regulations, water quality science, water quality customer service and public health issues.
Abilities/Skills
  • Be able to handle multiple tasks and meet deadlines.
  • Maintain a helpful and customer focused work environment.
  • Strong analytical skills and be able to handle large amounts of diverse data.
  • A high standard of written and verbal communication.
  • Able to provide accurate quality work within department and company.
Desirable
  • Experience of working with water industry regulators, water companies and stakeholders.
  • An understanding of water resources and how the supply-balance is maintained.
  • An understanding of contaminated land assessments.
  • Experience of coaching or mentoring.
Conditions of Employment

You are required to have your criminal records checked through the Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS). This is due to going into customers’ homes.

You will be required to participate in a standby rota.
